Bioparnon Marjoram

Marjoram is a perennial plant which has its roots from the Labiatae family. It is an herbaceous plant with small and fragrant leaves.

Also, it is similar to oregano. Its flowers are brown. It blooms from July to September.

Marjoram grows across the Mediterranean countries with other six species of herbaceous plants, too. The most significant species is the oregano Marjoram, the height of which reaches to 60cm. The stem is square and its leaves have a small oval shape and a characteristic lavender odor. Its blossom is small and white.

On the other hand, Hippocrates, a Greek physician of the Age of Pericles, recommended it as antiseptic. Nowadays, it grows in pots and gardens as an ornamental and aromatic plant.

Use: As decoction: boil a teaspoon Marjoram in a pot of water for a few minutes. Then, strain it and drink it warm with honey. As infusion: put a teaspoon Marjoram in a pot of hot water. Leave it in the pot for ten minutes, then strain it and drink it warm with honey. This way helps to soothe headaches, dizziness, neurological diseases, and cough, tooth and rheumatism pains. Furthermore, it helps in intestinal disorders and stomachaches.

Its blossom is used as an air freshener in the kitchen. Moreover, its essence is used in pharmaceutical and in perfumery.

Externally, as an ointment it helps in disinfection of wounds, it improves the body’s function and it revives the immune system (boil 100g Marjoram in 1 liter of water).
